Student Performing Tracking System
Project background
As Google’s former senior vice president for people operations, Laszlo Bock, said: ”GPA scores are worthless as a criterion for hiring, they do not predict anything.” College is a time for self-discovery. It is a place for the cultivation of our talents. As a student, grade is not our end goal. We should think about who we are and who we want to become.
Project description
Student Performing Tracking System (SPTS) is an automatic tracking network created for design schools to track students’ academic performance at anytime and anywhere. And it can provide timely updates to the students and/or the instructors in form of infographic reports. This new system provides an opportunity for the students from any background to monitor their own performance in various aspects, such as academic work, programming skills, etc. Meanwhile, the instructors with granted permissions are able to design or re-design the curriculum according to the reports to help the students improve their academic performance.
The traditional transcript of excessive pursuit of grades distorts the original purpose of the curriculum and limits the possibilities of education. It does not provide enough timely help for the students' development. The SPTS is an ideal alternative. The system tracks a student’s performance in important aspects that can be either strong or weak, and anticipates the trend of the aspects. While tracking both the students’ strengths and weaknesses, the system will provide timely help such that the students can decide what next steps to take if necessary, hence the students can keep doing what they have been doing well and improve what needs improvement.
